GEN.LONG STARTED THE CIVIL WAR AS A COLONEL OF THE 4TH OHIO CAVALRY.SAW ACTION DURING THE TULLAHOMA CAMPAIGN AND LATER AT CHICKAMAUGA.CONNECTED TO THE 2ND DIV.CAVALRY CORPS. WAS COMMISSIONED BRIG.GEN. LATE TO BE BREVETTED 3-13-1865 IN THE U.S.ARMY AS BRIG.GEN. RETIRED FROM THE MILITARY WITH ACTUAL RANK OF MAJOR GENERAL. HUSBAND OF JANE ISABELLA LANE LONG.
