A CAPTAIN OF THE 10TH U.S.CAVALRY AND BREVET COLONE IN THE U.S.ARMY.HE SERVED IN THE 5TH U.S.CAVALRY DURING THE CIVIL WAR IN THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC.HE ENTERED THE MILITARY AS A PRIVATE AND RECEIVED BREVET PROMOTIONS FROM THAT OF 1ST LIEUT. THROUGH COLONEL FOR HEORIC ACTIONS. HAVING FOUGHT DURING THE INDIAN WARS AFTER THE CIVIL WAR HE RECEIVED THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR ON APRIL 8-1898 FOR ACTIONS OF HEROISM AT BEACHERS ISLAND IN COLORADO WHILE CAPTAIN OF THE 10TH U.S.CAVALRY
