He served with and was assigned to the NY 10th Independent Battery during the Civil War. At age 23 years old he enlisted on January 17, 1862 at Olean, NY; mustered in as Private, January 18, 1862 to serve three years; discharged for disability, May 19, 1862, at Washington, D.C.
