THE RECEIVED A COMMISION TO 2ND LIEUT.HE SERVED THROUGH THE CIVIL WAR AND WHEN ENDED SERVED IN THE 13TH U.S.INFANTRY AFTERWARDS AND SERVED DURING THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR COMMANDING THE 13TH U.S.INFANTRY AND WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR FOR HEROIC ACTIONS AT THE BATTLE OF SAN JUAN HILL.
