Pvt Samuel Morey born, December 1840. Enlisted in the 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company I (a/k/a the Irish Dragoons) on August 14, 1862, for three years. He was mustered out with his company on July 14, 1865, after participating in some 17 battles. After the war he made a living as a lumberjack and charcoal burner in the New Jersey Pine Barrens then existing around Millville, Cumberland County, until he became blind at approximately age 92. At the time of his death he was the oldest Civil War veteran in the State pf New Jersey and the last member of the Sewell GAR post. He is buried in Union Cemetery, Mays Landing, New Jersey.
