Enlisted on August 23, 1861, as a Private in Co. A of the 7th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. Rose to the rank of Sgt. Maj. before transferring to Co. H. as 2nd then 1st Lt. before becoming the Regimental Adjutant on September 10, 1863. He was wounded at Malvern Hill, Trostle Farm (2nd day at Gettysburg) and Spotsylvania Court House and discharged for injury in 1864. His pension lists gun shot wounds of the right hand, left shoulder, left thigh and right knee. Died - July 21, 1911
